The Ukȧmȧ platform is a platform that brings together some of the leading think tanks in Europe and Africa with the aim to facilitate dialogue, knowledge creation, and action to smoothen EU-Africa relations in order to facilitate strong cooperation around green development pathways, sustainability transformations and shared prosperity in the two continents.

About the role

Ukȧmȧ urgently seeks the services of consultants to produce a set of concise (about 5000 words) high quality synthetic scoping papers on energy transitions and just energy partnerships in Africa. The papers will offer insightful analysis and recommendations on what a credible just energy transition partnership between Europe and Africa could look like, and steps and conditions that would be needed for achieve such credible partnerships.

The scoping papers will consider the questions from a continental perspective and offer a deep dive analysis into three select countries – Senegal, Nigeria and South Africa including a mapping of key stakeholders in those countries. The papers will offer recommendations that could guide EU and African policy makers in achieving fair and equitable energy transitions deals that will be mutually beneficial for the people pf the two continents. For the South African case, the paper will explore lessons learnt from the Just Energy Transitions partnership deal struck at COP26 and the conditions needed to ensure successful implementation. Ukȧmȧ plans to offer three contracts one each for Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in energy and climate policy analysis.
  • Good network with African policymakers and civil society organizations working on energy transition issues at the AU level and the case study country you are applying to cover.
  • Graduate degree in a relevant field.
  • Deep knowledge of energy transition and climate change issues as they affect Africa.
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills.
  • Ability to deliver on tight deadlines
  • Independent research and consultancy profile, proven through research outputs and policy recommendations.
