Reminder: Invitation To Participate In Webinar On The Role Of Private Sector In The Design And Implementation Of Africa’S NDCs And Climate Action

Spread the love

The NDCs developed by African countries to combat climate change will require an estimated USD 3 trillion of investment. At least 75% of that investment is expected to come from the private sector across several key industries. However, the private sector’s participation in climate change initiatives in Africa remains weak. It needs to be strengthened to take advantage of the abundant opportunities for green investments on the continent (AfDB, 2019). However, a cursory stocktake will reveal that much still needs to be done in terms of converting the opportunities presented by NDCs   into investment-ready portfolios or projects of which the government cannot do all on its own.  Herein lies the need for the government to engage with the private sector on how to create markets and scale up climate investment while maximising development impact.

In the webinar, experts will explore ways in which the private sector could play more active and “meaningful” roles in the design and implementation of African NDCs and climate action more broadly.  Panellist will also explore the barriers against greater involvement of the private sector in climate change action as well as the implication of climate change to the private sector.

The main presentation will draw from “the role of private sector in the design and implementation of Africa’s NDCs and climate action”, a commissioned short analytical piece by the Center for Climate Change and Development as part of the project on providing independent critical analysis and input into the revision process of Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) which is due for submission later this year

Please join us on this important webinar to discuss the findings by leading national experts.
